Water Flow - Data

http://waterwatch.usgs.gov/?m=real&r=mi&w=map

Here is the site you'll want to keep looking at over the next week. Basically all of the Green/Blue/Black are HIGH water conditions and the White/Yellow and Red are LOW conditions.

Up North the water is running low & clear. Hatches are running about a week ahead of schedule. If all stays on track - Hex could be on the menu for trout this weekend on some of the rivers up north.

Around here we are headed towards another HIGH water summer on the Grand and it's tributaries. I wish we could send up some water up North...in trade for some better conditions around here.

PM River Report

Here is an up to date report from our friend Jeff Hubbar @ outfittersnorth.com

The Pere Marquette is fishing well for Trout. The rains we received last week was a blessing. The Trout fishing became better and better as the week went on. Streamer fishing was the method of choice with a nice stain to the water and the cooler temps. Did see a few bugs as the afternoon's started to warm. The water is dropping fast now and starting to clear so streamer fishing will slow down a bit. With the warmer weather we saw Sunday I'm looking for Dry Fly fishing to pick up with Sulphurs and Gray Drakes on the menu. Flies last week were Streamers in Black,White and Olive. For Dries try in the evening Sulphurs,Gray Drakes and Bigger Brown Stones. If intersted in some Trout fishing not only on the Pere Marquette but Manistee and Muskegon rivers e-mail me or give me a call I have a couple open days left next month.

Trout flies so far have been small Streamers in Whites and White /Olive in mornings, afternoons have been Black,Olive or Ginger. For Dry Flies try Hendricksons, Small Stones,Caddis and don't forget about some big attractors such as Wulff's,Sofa Pillows and Chernobyls. Also in the evening start throwing some Sulpurs and Gray Drakes around it's only a matter of time before these patterns start getting good. If interested in some Trout fishing, you can contact me by e-mail or give me a call. I have a couple days left tyhis month and a few in June.

Here is the Brown that Jim P. caught again...

Upper Man Report - Ed@Hawkins

Fishing Report for the Upper Manistee River 5/5/10:

Fishing on the Upper continues to give us some good shots at some nice trout as of late. Bill and I hit the Upper today in hopes of cashing in on some streamer fishing and mixing it up with some dries. We did very well today on streamers despite the sunny skies, but the wind really killed our dry fly opportunities. Best flies were white, yellow, and olive streamers fished deep. The water looks really good right now as the rain has brought our levels back to more normal conditions for this time of year with a nice tea stain. Water temps are in the mid fifties and the fish we caught today were not bashful. We had sporadic Black and Tan Caddis, Hendrickson’s, BWO’s, and Medium Brown Stones hatching throughout the day, but the wind was not allowing the bugs to get the fish keyed in on them. The next few warm evenings should provide some good spinner falls and I have already had a few good fish lost on dries over the past week or so. Look for things to get cranking over the next few weeks as our sulphurs should get going by the middle of May.

Tight Lines,
Ed

Here is a pic from a Wildlife Biologist from Michigan of a Lower Peninsula Wolf caught on film from a trail camera that he'd set up. Now, something else to think about while HEX fishing.

Big Brown Big Man

Here is a pic from Jim P. of a 26" Brown taken on the Big Manistee on a streamer this past week. Though, it was the only fish caught that day, I would have taken it.

Across the Bridge

Corey crossed the bridge this weekend and fished the Carp river with some success catching a handful of Brook Trout and Browns. He did note there was a ton of Steelhead beds with no Steelhead to be found. Maybe we should keep that in mind for next year?
