Upper Man Report - Ed@Hawkins
Fishing Report for the Upper Manistee River 5/5/10:
Fishing on the Upper continues to give us some good shots at some nice trout as of late. Bill and I hit the Upper today in hopes of cashing in on some streamer fishing and mixing it up with some dries. We did very well today on streamers despite the sunny skies, but the wind really killed our dry fly opportunities. Best flies were white, yellow, and olive streamers fished deep. The water looks really good right now as the rain has brought our levels back to more normal conditions for this time of year with a nice tea stain. Water temps are in the mid fifties and the fish we caught today were not bashful. We had sporadic Black and Tan Caddis, Hendrickson’s, BWO’s, and Medium Brown Stones hatching throughout the day, but the wind was not allowing the bugs to get the fish keyed in on them. The next few warm evenings should provide some good spinner falls and I have already had a few good fish lost on dries over the past week or so. Look for things to get cranking over the next few weeks as our sulphurs should get going by the middle of May.
Tight Lines,
Ed
